Elvis Dávila Horna was born into a family of coffee producers in the village of El Basal in the Chontali region. This part of Chontali differs from most of the coffee regions in Jaen and San Ignacio by having a cooler and drier climate and growing a number of other varieties not found elsewhere in the region.
His farm is located at an altitude of 1850 meters. Elvis owns 2 hectares of land where he grows coffee varieties such as caturra and bourbon. One of these cattura varieties has very light bronze buds, which is quite unusual, the cherries grow in bunches like the bourbon variety, the grains are extremely small and round.
Elvis and his family handle most of the harvest themselves, but hire additional help during the busiest days. After harvesting, the coffee is left to ferment for 36 to 48 hours, due to the cold climate, and then dried on dark tarps for 10 to 15 days.
