It’s not every day that I come across a beautifully sweet and full-bodied natural Colombia, and this lot immediately caught my attention. I’ve wanted to include a coffee like this in our selection for a long time — one where the espresso tastes like melted chocolate! And here it is!

This coffee comes from smallholder farmers around the town of Planadas, who bring their freshly picked coffee cherries to the Asopep association’s processing station. There, a dedicated team not only provides valuable support and guidance to the farmers, but also ensures the cherries receive the best possible care and are carefully dried on raised beds with regular turning.

The Tolima department, where Planadas is located, offers excellent conditions for coffee cultivation — from rich volcanic soil to regular and abundant rainfall. These conditions have long allowed the production of outstanding washed coffees. However, the team at Asopep decided to experiment with natural processing, and the result is exceptional.

At the moment, more and more coffee is being processed using the natural method, allowing the association to push quality even further, separate lots by variety, and provide higher payments directly to the farmers.
