Do you know what Ceiba means? It is a mighty tree that was considered sacred in Mayan culture. It symbolized the connection between heaven, earth, and the underworld. In Honduras, you can find not only this tree, but also the city of La Ceiba, nicknamed La bella – the beautiful one. And it is from Honduras, specifically the Marcalaregion, that our coffee Café Ceiba originates.
The coffee is grown here at altitudes of up to 1,600 meters. It is 100% organic and the result of the work of farmers united in the cooperative COMSA (Café Orgánico Marcala). COMSA was founded in2001, at a time when coffee prices had fallen to historic lows and many farms were abandoned. A group of determined farmers decided to take a different path – to return to nature and farm without chemicals. From these small beginnings grew an organization that today brings together over 1,200producers and has become a symbol of quality, fairness, and sustainability.
