Bernard Uwitije, the founder of the Bwenda washing station, hails from the Nyamagabe region of southwest Rwanda, where coffee is not only a part of everyday life but also a key crop that shapes the landscape. His journey into the coffee world began by trading in commonly processed, home-grown coffee. But he soon discovered that the true value of coffee lies in the right processing to take it to the next level.
In 2016, he built his first washing station near his hometown, where during the first year he focused on learning all the secrets of successful coffee processing. In 2017, he added a second washing station and became a master at processing larger volumes of cherries without compromising on quality.
But it wasn't enough for Bernard. In 2018, he noticed that farmers in remote areas didn't have access to washing stations to process their cherries into high-end coffee. And so Bwenda - his third washing station - was built to bring quality coffee cherry processing to where it was needed most.
První sezónu, v roce 2019, Bwenda zpracovala jeden kontejner třešní, ale Bernard už tehdy věděl, že jeho vize se začíná naplňovat. Dnes nejen že rozšiřuje kapacitu promývací stanice, ale také se věnuje vzdělávání a rozvoji místních farmářů, aby jim pomohl dosahovat co nejvyšší kvality jejich sklizně.
Káva z Bwendy není jen o skvělé chuti. Je to příběh o udržitelnosti, podpoře místních farmářů a vášni pro zlepšování kávové kultury v Rwandě. Každý šálek této kávy je výsledkem tvrdé práce a závazku k dosažení nejvyšší možné kvality.
