Thanks to the all-natural and natural decaffeination process using sugar cane, this decaffeinated coffee is beautifully sweet and enjoyable for espresso and filter coffee and is also great in milk drinks.
Small farmers often form cooperatives and use central processing stations where their coffee is processed. One of these processing stations is Horizon, located in the hills of southern Rwanda, in the Kigoma sector, just 20 km from the town of Huye and near the small village of Simbi.
The station is owned by Leo Fidele Ndagijimana, who purchased it in late 2018 after it had not operated for several years under the previous owner. After the transfer, he invested in repairing and upgrading the mill facilities, setting new quality standards. The Horizon name reflects its vision for processing exceptional coffee and supporting the local community.
Rwanda offers ideal conditions for growing coffee - high altitudes, regular rainfall, rich volcanic soils and a wide range of Bourbon varieties. Most of the country's coffee comes from smallholders, estimated at around half a million. These farmers usually manage small plots of land not exceeding one hectare per family. Coffee is grown throughout the country, with the largest concentration of farms located along Lake Kivu and in the southern province.
