Product detailed description
“Harangal is one of our staples, but every year it manages to pleasantly surprise me all over again. This year, for instance, it stands out with a beautiful, delightfully creamy body. The secret? Petu never stops innovating—this harvest, he focused on maintaining precise control during drying to prevent the coffee from overheating. I’m already excited to see what next year brings, but in the meantime, join me in enjoying this wonderfully sweet cup.”

About the Farmer and Harangal Farm
Petu Kariappa is a second-generation farmer who passionately manages the Harangal farm, tucked away in the pristine forested hills of the Coorg (Kodagu) region in Southern India. Upon returning from university, he decided to carry on the family tradition and took over the farm, learning everything about coffee cultivation and soil management from his father and extended family. The Harangal farm is situated at an altitude of approximately 1,250 metres and covers around 105 acres (about 42 hectares). Today, the land is planted with roughly 60% Arabica and 40% Robusta, with the main Arabica cultivar being SLN 6 (an Arabica × Robusta hybrid). The coffee is processed using the traditional washed method: coffee cherries are fermented in water for about 18 hours, depulped, and then dried on patios for around 8 days.

Ecosystem and Biodiversity
The Coorg region is part of the Western Ghats, one of the world's eight biodiversity hotspots and a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. This mountain range, stretching along the western coast of India, plays a crucial role in regulating the climate of Southern India and serves as the source of many major rivers. On the farm, coffee trees are grown under a dense polycultural shade canopy consisting of a diverse mix of native and fruit trees, including jamun, fig, mango, banana, orange, avocado, and rosewood. This system fosters natural balance, protects the soil, and creates an ideal microclimate for coffee. As a result, Harangal is not just a coffee farm, but a living ecosystem—home to peacocks, wild boars, Indian gaur (a species of wild cattle), and a rich variety of birds, butterflies, and other mammals. Biodiversity here is not merely preserved, but actively nurtured through responsible farming practices.
