Producer's story
The company name "Oboleyan" means "siblings" in the Afan Oromo language. And that's exactly what this project is about. The company was founded in 2018 by brothers Tariku, Anteneh, Wondimu and Demelash Edema. They are no newcomers to the business - they are the third generation of a family deeply committed to coffee. Their father left a strong legacy in the coffee sector in the Guji zone, which the sons are now continuing.
Oboleyan buys cherries from 148 small-scale farmers in the Tabe Burka area. These farmers farm small plots (1-4 hectares) in a "garden coffee" system, where coffee trees grow in the shade of other trees. They use exclusively agroecological methods without the use of chemical fertilizers. Among the varieties grown, Kurume stands out - a traditional regional variety, named after the original Albizia gummifera tree, under which coffee thrived in the rainforests.
