Glitter Trading and Logistics PLC is an export company based in Haro Sorsa in the western Guji region of Ethiopia, established in January 2022. It works closely with local smallholder farmers - 450 in total - and exports approximately 144 tonnes of green coffee annually.
The coffee trees grow at an altitude of 2,200 to 2,400 metres, where they thrive thanks to the fertile red clay soil and cool mountain climate - ideal conditions for growing fine Arabica.
One of the exceptional batches offered by the company is 'Hambela, Haro Sorsa', whose production involves 250 farmers. Each of them grows an average of 0.3 tonnes of coffee per season. The coffee is grown here in the traditional way under shade trees and without the use of chemicals, i.e. naturally organically. It is often planted alongside the pseudo-banana tree, a traditional crop that promotes food self-sufficiency, improves soil quality and also provides shade for the coffee trees.
Harvesting is done by hand and very carefully - only fully ripe coffee cherries are harvested. They are then dried on raised African beds for 12 to 15 days, turned periodically for even drying, and then peeled and stored in a warehouse before export.
However, Glitter Trading and Logistics PLC doesn't just strive for top quality coffee - it also places an emphasis on community development and social responsibility. It provides farmers with pre-financing options, pays quality premiums and offers some farmers advance payments to support their farming. In addition, it supports education in the local community, for example by donating school supplies to children.
